I have been on the hunt for cute school clothes for A. Lamenting the fact that she has outgrown the toddler section at my favorite stores...and wanting some fun items for her that are comfy but will still turn heads...I've resorted to cranking up the trusty old sewing machine and doing it myself. I don't know why clothing manufacturers feel the need to market "teen clothing" for little girls. Call me old fashioned, a fuddy-duddy, or just plain sensible...but I like my LITTLE girls to look...well...little. A is all about comfort these days. This is the first of several sets I'm working on for her.
Check out the Summer 2008 issue of Ottobre for this super cute top pattern! I was tiring of the same hoodie style tops I usually make the girls and was looking for something a bit more trendy. This pattern was a breeze to put together (minus the neck binding...which I ripped out 3 times!) I would highly suggest using FOE at the neckline...I've already ordered mine for the next round of sewing!
Anna said she got stopped by everyone at school today...including the principal...guess I should have packed some business cards in her backpack!!

so cute! i've been having the same problem with my kindergartener. i'm not ready for her to dress like she's 16! you did a great job with this set. :)
I just ran across your blog while searching sewing. Your clothing is adorable!! Do you sell your fashions? Are they purchased patterns that you have revamped? They are beautiful!
Hi Jenn!!! WELL... we can be OLD FASHIONED FUDDY DUDDIES together FRIEND... I feel the EXACT SAME WAY (another reason to LOVE uniforms!)... A looks ADORABLE!!! That top is FAB!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Love, Lala :o)

Jennifer
your girls are so fortunate to have such a talented mum. love the dotty leggings!
SO CUTE!!! I wish I could sew, I am so jealous!!!
I am telling you, you could have your own line and it would sell like hotcakes to mom's looking for age-appropriate clothing because it is JUST NOT OUT THERE! I can't believe some of the stuff that is out there and if you go to buy stuff that is suitable modesty wise they are not suitable in the length because they are for the little girl's. I for one think you should start a line!!! I am just sad it would not happen in time for me to use it for Abby. We are already fighting over clothes and their lack of breathable room... she wants all her jeans skin tight that is how she likes the feel of them... grrr! She is NINE!!! It is going to be a loooon 9 more years! :)
