The Proverbial Towel

It is time to say goodbye to a dear friend....time to throw in the towel. It has been a long and satisfying road. Many ups and downs...an opportunity to learn, create, and express. But today my life is full to the brim with other good things...and something has to go. A few months ago my decision to leave ebay and clothing designing would have been difficult. But over the past month I've realized that closing this door will allow me the time and energy to run full force in other directions. And I feel free.

I've been on the computer now a full hour...sorting through thousands of photo files. I've realized that my love for photography was always there...simmering in the background...documenting the little (and sometimes big) changes of my sweet girls. I'm so thankful for the years of photographs that I have and the wonderful people I have met. The time has been so fleeting...when I see my girls and how they have changed. I feel a twinge of regret for how they have grown...and an excitement about the beautiful children they have become.

It amazes me how photographs can stir your heart. How seeing an image can conjure up the laughter of a child and the feel of damp grass in an abandoned field. If I could just stare hard and long enough...I could bring back those tiny hands and toothy smiles.

But my girls are growing up. The chubby hands are long and slender...and writing love notes to eachother. My babbling toddlers have grown into little girls who are full of questions and silly secrets. I'm so fortunate to have all of these gentle reminders of how much they have changed.

I'm excited about the changes life has brought. I'm excited about the chance to document the next years in a new light.

Life is changing. Life is good.

Even though this was a happy post for you, it brought tears to my eyes!! Like you I have a passion for photography and am opening a new door myself. I could sit and look for hours at old images of my two sweeties and 9 times out of 10 remember the exact moment that is forever frozen in time. The weather, the scene and the story that is being documented.

Thanks for the gentle reminder that although those baby days pass all too fast, there are many wonderful things that come with each new phase in childhood.

Sentimental journey. When I see your children (and other bloggers) I take a mental trip back to when my own were little, and I wish I had better pictures of them. sigh.

I hope that you will continue designing/sewing for the girls tho'
Love the look.

Awe...Jenn...it doesn't surprise me. Your eye for photographs is truly amazing.

I will dearly miss seeing all of your wonderful creations. I get giddy every time I see a new listing by you. As I've tol you before you were the very first designer I stumbled upon and I just knew I had to sew too. I remember every one of those sets you showed (except for #2). I even remember the story behind the old quilt top you used on the pink tank tops, and you asking the quilting ladies not to come after you for destroying a quilt that was already destroyed. LOL Your sister is not the only one with a gift for writing. ;)

What a gift for your family to be able to look back at all of those gorgeous photos and see the progression of change (and so sweetly dressed too!).

Here's to being happy in all you do.

Yes, Jen ... it is a bit freeing (and scary) to leave Ebay -- but in the end I think we've all made some incredible friends and wouldn't go back and do it differently!

Run with your photography business -- it will do well! Your photos are fabulous :)

best of luck!

Beautiful photos! You are obviously a born photographer. Your photos evoke such emotion and happiness.

And those clothes - were thoes all things you made?? I've only been following your blog for a few months, storing away so many ideas for the future when I have kids. If you'll no longer be selling on ebay, could you recommend some patterns or give some tips or tutorials for those of us who missed out (or held back from buying clothes for kids that didn't exist yet :))?

Your work - both clothing and photography - is truly beautiful! God bless!

I have said it before, and I will repeat it over and over, your photos are AMAZING! I don't know how you do it, but they capture each sweet little boy or girl and their entire personality. Not to mention your little ones are just the cutest kiddos i've ever seen. Sometimes we all just try to do too much, until we find what really calls out to our hearts. You have truly found and captured your gift with both hands. Kudos!

Hi Jen, I've been a huge fan of your designs forever. I'm only sorry that I never had a chance to own one (where DO you get those fabulous knits?!). I follow your blog so kind of suspected this was coming. Your photography is so beautiful and moving. Good luck with your new ventures. Talent like yours can only succeed!
